CHILD SUPPORT & SPOUSAL SUPPORT

Child support, which is the right of the child, is the amount of money that one parent pays- generally on a monthly basis, to the other parent to help pay for the costs of caring for the child. Generally, the “payor parent” either spends less time with the child or, if they spend an equal amount of time with the children, earns a significantly higher income than the recipient parent.

Spousal support, is financial assistance paid by one spouse to the other following a common law relationship separation or a divorce. Such support is to aid the lower-income partner and/or spouse, so they can become self-sufficient or to compensate for a financial disadvantage that occurred during the relationship and/or marriage.
